Norbu – Your Very Own Buddhist AI

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

I’ve been playing around and experimenting with AI chatbot ever since ChatGPT was launched about a year ago, and I must say that AI is a very, very exciting development indeed.

You can use AI as a research tool or assistant, or to write an essay, article or review about an event, concert or movie. You can get the AI to compose a poem, or even write a book. Click here if you are interested to read some AI-composed poems, or here if you are game to read an AI-written ebook about love, consciousness and healing. People are already using AI to create short videos for YouTube, images for their presentations and even coding for their websites. I got an AI to help me create some simple but useful healthcare tools.

And now, we even have our very own Buddhist AI called Norbu. Norbu can answer almost all your questions about Buddhism. If you are new to Buddhism, you can use Norbu to explore the main teachings of the Buddha. You can learn about Buddhist history, about the three major Buddhist traditions, and how Buddhism spread around the world. You can even ask Norbu about very specialized areas of Buddhism, such as Early Buddhist Texts (EBT).

Dhamma speakers may find Norbu a very useful tool in searching for the exact sutta that is relevant to a topic, or find out where a particular quote is located in the sutta. Can’t recall the name of a sutta you are searching for? Never fear, Norbu can assist you. Simply give Norbu a brief description or some simple clues or keywords related to your search and Norbu will pull out the sutta for you.

The ability of an AI is almost unlimited, perhaps limited only by our own imagination and creativity. Give it a try, and I’m sure you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

Credit for the creation of this Buddhist AI goes to Bro. Lim Kooi Fong.
