{"id":833,"date":"2014-10-21T12:33:59","date_gmt":"2014-10-21T12:33:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.klinikong.com\/?p=833"},"modified":"2014-10-21T12:33:59","modified_gmt":"2014-10-21T12:33:59","slug":"paralysed-man-walks-again-after-cell-transplant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/klinikong.com\/blog\/2014\/10\/21\/paralysed-man-walks-again-after-cell-transplant\/","title":{"rendered":"Paralysed man walks again after cell transplant"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A paralysed man has been able to walk again after a pioneering therapy that involved transplanting cells from his nasal cavity into his spinal cord.<\/p>\n<p>Darek Fidyka, who was paralysed from the chest down in a knife attack in 2010, can now walk using a frame.<\/p>\n<p>The treatment, a world first, was carried out by surgeons in Poland in collaboration with scientists in London.<\/p>\n<p>Details of the research are published in the journal Cell Transplantation.<\/p>\n<p>BBC One&#8217;s Panorama programme had unique access to the project and spent a year charting the patient&#8217;s rehabilitation.<\/p>\n<p>Darek Fidyka, 40, from Poland, was paralysed after being stabbed repeatedly in the back in the 2010 attack.<\/p>\n<p>He said walking again &#8211; with the support of a frame &#8211; was &#8220;an incredible feeling&#8221;, adding: &#8220;When you can&#8217;t feel almost half your body, you are helpless, but when it starts coming back it&#8217;s like you were born again.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>For the full story, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/health-29645760\">click here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A paralysed man has been able to walk again after a pioneering therapy that involved transplanting cells from his nasal cavity into his spinal cord.
