{"id":689,"date":"2013-02-26T02:22:41","date_gmt":"2013-02-26T02:22:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.klinikong.com\/?p=689"},"modified":"2013-02-26T02:22:41","modified_gmt":"2013-02-26T02:22:41","slug":"bad-sleep-dramatically-alters-body","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/klinikong.com\/blog\/2013\/02\/26\/bad-sleep-dramatically-alters-body\/","title":{"rendered":"Bad sleep &#8216;dramatically&#8217; alters body"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"story_continues_1\">A run of poor sleep can have a dramatic effect on the internal workings of the human body, say UK researchers.<\/p>\n<p>The activity of hundreds of genes was altered when people&#8217;s sleep was cut to less than six hours a day for a week.<\/p>\n<p>Writing in the journal\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.pnas.org\/cgi\/doi\/10.1073\/pnas.1217154110\">Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences<\/a>, the researchers said the results helped explain how poor sleep damaged health.<\/p>\n<p>Heart disease, diabetes, obesity and poor brain function have all been linked to substandard sleep.<\/p>\n<p>What missing hours in bed actually does to alter health, however, is unknown.<\/p>\n<p>So researchers at the University of Surrey analysed the blood of 26 people after they had had plenty of sleep, up to 10 hours each night for a week, and compared the results with samples after a week of fewer than six hours a night.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/health-21572686\">Click here<\/a> for the full story.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A run of poor sleep can have a dramatic effect on the internal workings of the human body, say UK researchers.
